Creation, Spirituality and Art Series
July 7 to 9 | October 6 to 8
Facilitator: Sr. Tina Geiger
Summer Session – July 7 to 9
SUMMER LIFE! SUMMER COLOR!
Join us in Praying with the Colors of your Life!
Using watercolor, clay, and acrylics, we will explore the colors of various stages in your life through multiple creative meditations. Participants will create “a journey map” as well as a self-portrait using found objects in nature.
No art experience is necessary. All materials are provided; however, you may bring your own supplies if you wish. Beginners and seasoned artists will support each other as we release the Creative Spirit Within!
“ The artist is no more and no less than a contemplative who has learned to express her/himself, and who tells her/his love in color, speech or sound. The mystic, upon one side of her/his nature, is an artist of a special and exalted kind.” Evelyn Underhill
Sr. Tina Geiger, a Sister of Mercy, and Spiritual Director says the connection and intersection of spirituality and art is her passion.
Fall Session – October 6 to 8
Impressions / Expressions of the Sacred
The Spirit of God has filled the universe with possibilities and therefore, from the very heart of things, something new can always emerge: “Nature is nothing other than a certain kind of art, namely God’s art, impressed upon things….” Pope Francis, Laudato Si #80
As we seek with intentional awareness God’s Presence in our created world through mediums of collage, clay, and watercolor, we will find ourselves hidden with Christ in God! (Col 3:3)
The spiritual approach to creating art does not focus upon producing an outcome/product but rather is about the Sacred forming and reforming our inner selves and our awareness of such growth through deep reflection on the art making process. No art experience necessary… bring an open heart!
Sr. Tina Geiger, RSM, Co-Director of Catholic Rural Ministry- Oil City Deanery, enjoys the contemplative process of art making. She is a trained spiritual director. Having acquired both a MA degree in Religious Education, and a minor in studio art, S. Tina has facilitated art and spirituality retreats for over two decades. She has taught and guided many in the ecological virtues –praise, gratitude, care, justice, work, simplicity, and humility– reflected in Pope Francis’ letter: Laudato Si – Care of Our Common Home
